When it comes to cars, if you buy one that doesn’t work or live up to the performance specifications that the dealership advertised, then it is a lemon. In the world of background screening companies, we call a company that doesn’t provide the services it advertises a SCAM…Net Detective is one of those companies. The site claims to be the Internet’s leading resource for performing background checks and intensive people searches. Yet, according to their customers, they are not living up to their hype.

We did some investigating and looked up Net Detective’s record with the Better Business Bureau of central Florida where they are headquartered. Here is what we found…Over the past 36 months, there have been over 200 hundred complaints filed against the company. This is more than double the amount of complaints that their competitors receive. Additionally, the majority of the complaints are for selling practices, advertising issues, billing disputes and product quality.

Since Net Detective claims to be the premiere site for background screenings, we want to put them to the test. I have selected three criminals – Daniel William Hiers, Jr. and Frederick Cecil McLean and Wayne Glasser. Heirs and Mclean are from the department of justice’s 10 most wanted sex offenders list. They are convicted sex offenders who are on the run from authorities and could potentially be living amongst us. A Colorado court recently sentenced Glassed to 60 years in jail for over 200 forces sexual offenses.

Let’s first search for Daniel Hiers an accused murderer and convicted sex offender. A warrant was issued for the former police officer’s arrest in March 2005. I’ll type his name in and search for him in South Carolina…The results are incomplete addresses. When I click on the “Find out more” button, I am taken to a billing screen. I have to pay an additional $29.95 a month and a $10 processing fee to receive more information. This is on top of the $29.95 a month I paid initially to sign up for Net Detective.

Once I agree to the additional fees, I am given access to (insert search results). Keep in mind, I have paid over $60 and I still don’t have any substantial information about Hiers.

Now let’s try searching for Fredrick Cecil McLean. The San Diego police department issued a warrant for his arrest in 2005. He is charged with four counts of child molestation, one count of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 and one count of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. Surely, Net Detective has this information in their database….

The search for Fredrick McLean produces four results…three in Temecula, California and one in Fallbrook, CA. Again, we have already paid an additional fee to search criminal records. (Insert Results)

Imagine you are approached by one these guys to do contract work. You use Net Detective to screen them and the search doesn’t produce any results. You are now making a hiring decision based on a lack of vital information. Not only have you wasted your time, but your money as well.

Daily News @ http://RevolutionNews.US — MORE THAN 150 DRUG RAIDS EVERY DAY IN THE UNITED STATES!! There’s more sad news to report on the drug raid front. Early Saturday morning, as the NYPD conducted a raid around 7 a.m. in the Bronx, an officer accidentally shot the suspect’s 76-year-old father.

According to a report, Officer Andrew McCormack “was trying to light up the dark Soundview apartment where a drug raid was under way … and reached for a flashlight attached to his gun.” Unfortunately, in attempting to turn on his flashlight, McCormack fired and struck Jose Colon in the stomach.

Mr. Colon’s son, Alberto, who was the target of the raid, was arrested and charged with heroin possession. The elder Colon was not charged and is not suspected of any wrongdoing. He is currently in stable condition and expected to survive the shooting according to police.

The New York Post points out the accidental shooting took place a block from where NYPD officers shot Amadou Diallo to death in 1999.

Roy, Utah — A 45-year-old man was shot and killed by police Thursday night as officers attempted to serve a warrant on a suspected drug house.

Officers for the Weber-Morgan Narcotics Strike Force entered the house, 5933 S. 2600 West, just after 10 p.m. The first officer through the door was confronted by a man carrying a golf club.

“That suspect had a club, had it raised above his head, went towards the officer in an attacking motion,” said Roy Police Chief Greg Whinham.

Fearing that either he or his colleagues were in imminent danger, the officer fired, fatally striking the man.

“Had the officer not made a decision and taken action at that moment that he did, there would have been grave results,” the chief said.

Neighbors reported hearing multiple shots coming from the house.

The Weber County Attorney’s Office announced Friday that the officer fired three shots, fatally injuring Todd E. Blair, the person who lived at the home and the subject of the search warrant.

Utah state court records indicate that Blair has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 1989, including several drug-related convictions. The last court listing for Blair was in 2007, when a protective order was issued against him for alleged cohabitant abuse, according to court records.

The search warrant Friday was for a residence that neighbors and police said had developed a reputation as a drug house. The warrant outlined “serious drugs” possibly being in the house, including heroin and methamphetamine, Whinham said.

Officers had been keeping surveillance on the house for several weeks and most of Thursday, Whinham said.

In addition to drug activity, police have been called to the residence on minor domestic issues in the past, he said.

Officers from several agencies, including the Weber County Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Roy police and Weber-Morgan County Homicide Task Force, assisted with the crime scene Thursday night.

Several residents said the entire neighborhood had a bad reputation.

“We’re glad we’re moving away. It’s a bad neighborhood,” said Brody Craven, who lives a block away.

“It’s scary to think that kind of stuff happens around here,” said Samantha Markos, another neighbor.

Brandi Hamblin said she’s seen police watching the home for the past few weeks.

“We’ve been suspecting that for a long time, that things were going on there that shouldn’t be, you know, drugs,” she said. “We’ve seen a lot of people drive up quickly and leave fast, things like that. And there are always lots of cars at that house.”

“We kind of knew what was going on over there in the first place because of all the traffic that was going through there,” added neighbor Tyler Petersen.

Whinham said if he had been faced with the same circumstances, he would have fired, too.

“If you take whatever the club might be, the mechanism — golf club, pipe, ax handle — it doesn’t matter to me,” he said. “The fact is, what can be the result, and in this case the result could have caused a lot of serious injury and potentially death to that officer or others that were trying to do what we have them do in our communities.”
