How long does it take for a divorce to show up and be reported to public records?

I’m dating this guy who says he’s been divorced a few months, but when i ran a check, only his marriage shows up, "no divorce record found"

A divorce is first recorded, then they send you the paperwork about a month later. Once you have it, it is proof you are divorced, and you need to produce the document in order to remarry. Ask to see his divorce decree. If it does not exist, then his marriage still does.

  1. Julie H Said,

He’s still married and lying to you. Does he go out in public with you? Probably not. Does he date you in the same city where he lives? Probably not. Does he show up odd times and then have to leave? Probably. He’s still married and he has no intention of leaving his wife. Sorry.

When the final divorce decree is mailed out, that means the record of divorce has been added/noted. If by some chance there’s a backup in the records or clerks office, I would think it could take an extra few weeks, but that seems a bit odd to me.
The purpose of the final divorce decree is to notify the parties that the divorce is recorded in the court records and its final. A few months? Something doesn’t sound right….

It varies. It could take anywhere from a few days to a few months. There are many websites online where you can check if the divorce shows up in public records. You can check the online divorce records lookup websites to check if it has showed up in public records. One search site for most current records is http://www.abika.com/Reports/Divorcerecords.htm
